Chapter Thirteen: Can’t Go Home

Justice

We finally raced out of the tunnel and a minute later, Talon called out over the comm, “Stop!”

We all slowed down and stopped our bikes.

I looked down at the screen to see the green blip on it. Scarlet! Then as quickly as I’d seen it—it disappeared. “What the fuck?” I exclaimed. “Where did it go?”

“She had to be taken underground again,” Talon said.

“Do we know where that blip was?” I asked.

“Out on the old industrial road at the edge of town,” Logan said.

“Is there anything out there?” I asked.

“The old mill and the quarry,” Talon said. “Both are not in operation anymore.”

“And that would make them the perfect hideouts,” Logan added over the comm.

“We have to check them both,” Talon said. “Follow me.” He started his bike and moved ahead of us.

I followed right behind him, as Liberty rode beside me. I thought I might go insane. We fucking lost her. Despite the plan, the tracker, me and Liberty in the trunk—her insane ex-boyfriend just snatched her right from under our noses. I felt like shit. It had been a full thirty minutes since he grabbed her. If her tracker didn’t appear again, I had no idea what we could do.

We turned on an old road that appeared to be barely there. Dust rose up and choked me. I had no helmet or a bandana as I didn't know I would be riding today. I did have trouble seeing though and that was a problem.

The bikes all slowed as Talon turned and headed toward an old building. Stopping, the men with him all looked around.

Talon got off his ride as did his brother, Dagger.

Kneeling down, Talon looked along the ground. “There’s no tracks. No tire tracks. No one has been here in a long time, at least not on this road.” He paused and then spoke into the comm, “Ace, is there a back road to the Steins mill?”

“Just a sec,” Logan replied.

Talon nodded at Dagger. “Take a few Rebels and head around back.”

Dagger motioned to two of the other men. They all rode around the back side of the metal building.

I shook my head and kept looking around. There wasn’t much to see. One large old steel building that appeared to be mostly falling down. Some junk piles here and there that looked like they’d been there for years, untouched. Then there were a couple of smaller buildings. And it was quiet, like ghost town quiet as dust filled the air from our arrival. The whole place looked dead and long abandoned.

“Not really any specified road, Talon,” Logan came on.

“Ok, let’s get going. Dagger?” Talon called.

“No tracks on the back side,” Dagger replied.

“Ok, let’s move,” Talon said.

“To where?” Liberty asked.

“The quarry,” he replied as he got back onto his bike. “It’s probably a better area for them to hide anyway. We need to approach it carefully. My gut tells me that is where he will be hiding.”

“This Wade you mean?” I asked.

“Deacon,” he said.

“So what about this Wade douchebag?” I asked as I rode behind him.
